Welcome to Montenegro, a small but beautiful country nestled among the mountain peaks of southeastern Europe.
Today we will travel to the mountains with a visit to the historical towns of Cetinje and the “family nest” of the last Petrović dynasty - the village of Negushi.
Our journey will start on the Budva Riviera where we will board a bus or car and head to Cetinje, the former royal capital of Montenegro.
On the way to Cetinje, we will be mesmerized by the beautiful scenery of the Budva Riviera and will definitely stop for a photo pause! Then our way will continue through the pass to Cetinje.
First we will visit the Cetinje Monastery, a sacred place of the Serbian Orthodox Church. The monastery is an architectural masterpiece and is famous for its stunning frescoes, icons and artifacts.
The monastery also houses the relics of St. Peter of Cetinje, a prominent ruler of the Montenegrin Orthodox Church.
Next we will walk along the pedestrian street, one of the first in the kingdom of Montenegro. We will see the National Museum of Montenegro, which is located in the very center of Cetinje.
The museum has an extensive collection of Montenegrin art, artifacts and cultural heritage. The most outstanding exhibit of the museum is the “Filerm Icon of the Virgin Mary”, painted according to the monks by St. Luke himself.
If you wish, you can visit King Nikola's Palace, the former royal residence of the Montenegrin royal family.
The palace is now a museum that houses a collection of royal artifacts, including personal belongings of King Nikola and his family. The architecture and interior of the palace testify to Montenegro's rich history and cultural heritage.
After exploring Cetinje, we will head to Negusi, a small village located in the mountains of Montenegro. The journey to Negusi is breathtaking and the village itself is known for its stunning natural beauty, traditional cuisine and rich cultural heritage.
On the way to Negusi we will visit the mausoleum, the final resting place of the greatest ruler of Montenegro, Petar II Petrovic-Njegoš. The mausoleum is a stunning architectural masterpiece, and the views from its top are breathtaking.
Next, we will head to the famous smokehouses where we will taste Montenegro's most famous culinary delicacy, Njeguški pršut, dry cured ham prepared according to old traditions. We will also have the opportunity to taste the famous village cheese, wine and other traditional dishes.
