On July 22, at sunset, a traditional Fašinada will be held in a wonderful place in Perast.
Fašinada is an ancient folk festival of Boka Kotorska, celebrated in honor of the Virgin on the Reef (Gospa od škrpjela).
The traditional event for Perast takes its name from the Italian word “fascia”, which means ribbon or bundle. According to tradition, all boats are tied together, filled with stones and decorated with green branches, they sail in one column to the island of Our Lady on the Reef.
According to legend, sailors from Perast found the icon of the Virgin Mary on the reef and vowed to build a temple dedicated to the Virgin Mary on this place!
On this day in 1452, the foundation stone was laid for the future man-made island Gospe od škrpjela, located opposite the city of Perast. Every year, the residents of Perast approach the island in their boats and throw stones into the sea to strengthen the island. 🥰
