Budva is one of the oldest settlements in the Adriatic. It was first mentioned in the V century B.C. In the early Middle Ages, Budva often changes its rulers, and in 1442 was finally handed by Venetian Republic. From 1797 till 1918 (excluded seven-year interval), there was the territory of Austro-Hungarian Empire. Since 1918 the city has become a part of Yugoslavia (then Montenegro).
The main sight of Budva is the Old Town surrounded by fortress walls. There are extant maritime citadel (the XV century), fortress gates, several ancient churches (from the VIII till the XVIII centuries). Picturesque narrow twisting streets with Mediterranean-styled houses, small squares covered with paving stones and other beautiful places of the Old Town are attractive for great number of tourists.
In summer, two large festivals, "Town-theatre" (from the middle of July till the end of August) and "Mediterranean song" (pop music, three days at the end of June), take place in the Old Town.
The modern Budva extended the boundaries of fortress walls long ago. Its population is about 10 thousand inhabitants, that in high season increases almost six fold because of guests accommodated in hotels and private houses.
There are 10 beaches in the Budva area:

The Jaz Beach is pebbly (sandy bottom) located 2.5 km away from the town centre in the wide bay. It consists of two parts, “large” and “smaller” (for nudists). In the vicinity of beach, there is a rarely built-up large area with luxuriant Mediterranean vegetation;

The Mogren-1 and Mogren-2 sandy-pebbly beaches are located 150 m away from the Old Town under the Spas hill, covered with oak wood. The beaches are connected together by a small tunnel. Many guests justly consider them to be the best beaches in Budva. The beach can be accessed only from Avala hotel along a narrow path;

Two city beaches are located quite near the fortress walls of the Old Town. Medieval relics and monuments make these small pebbly beaches attractive;

The Slovenska beach is sandy-pebbly, 1600 m long. It spreads out from the town port to Park hotel. The seaside promenade, stretching along the whole beach with its bars, restaurants, discotheques, is the popular spot for holidaymakers;

The Guvance beach is small, 80 m long. It is located under the hill near the pedestrian tunnel leading to Becici;

Three sandy beaches are located on the Sveti Nikola Island opposite the Slovenska beach 1 km away from the cost. During bathing season, small ships runs to the island.
Also in Budva, there are a lot of activities for lovers of sports. On the territory of Slovenska Plaza hotel, there is a soil tennis-court complex. There are 10 marked routes of various length and categories for lovers of hiking and racing. Several diving centres organize studying courses and diving excursions in various locations of Montenegrin coast.
760 m above the town, on the Brajici village periphery, there is the best paragliding location in Montenegro (landing place in the Becici beach area). Weather conditions permit to glide here from the end of March till the end of September.
