Kolasin is situated in the middle flow of the one of the most beautiful Montenegrin rivers – Tara and is surrounded by the mountains. This town was founded by the Turks in 1652 at the outpost on the caravan route from Podgorica to Bijelo Polje. The ruins of the Turkish fortress and powder depot remains here. In 1878, by the Decision of the Berlin Congress, Kolasin was included in the territory of Montenegro.
Nowadays it is the centre of the National Park "Biogradska Gora", well known for its virgin forests and glacier lakes. 9 km from the town there is a Ski centre Bjelasica with long gentle slopes and steady snow cover. It is rather suitable for beginner skiers as well as for skiers with medium level.
